PONTEVEDRA, Spain — September 23, 2026 — As the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Finals open in Pontevedra today, the five-day international competition is introducing a quiet operational shift behind the scenes.

World Triathlon has integrated e-bikes into the event's operational and mobility system, with Fiido named the Exclusive E-Bike Partner for the 2026 Pontevedra Finals.

Two Firsts for the 2026 Finals

The 2026 Pontevedra Finals bring together two separate firsts:

  • A First in Spain: The WTC Finals Pontevedra 2026 mark the first time electric bikes have been formally integrated into event operations and mobility for a world-level triathlon event held in Spain.
  • A First for the Championship Finals: This is the first time the World Triathlon Championship Finals have partnered with an urban electric bike brand for event mobility.

A Sustainable Mobility Strategy in the Host City

The initiative forms part of the championship's broader sustainability strategy, which promotes sustainable mobility, including walking, cycling and public transport in Pontevedra.

World Triathlon's official strategy covers climate impact, resource use, ecological footprint, responsible consumption and social integration. Sustainable mobility is part of the wider approach to staging the 2026 Finals.

Why Pontevedra Fits the Move

Pontevedra has a long history with World Triathlon, having previously hosted the 2019 and 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships and the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Finals.

The 2026 Finals again bring competition and event activity to several locations across the city, as outlined in the official event map:

  • CGTD Stadium: The finish line for all categories, alongside event offices and athlete and media facilities.
  • Avenida Montero Ríos & Plaza de España: The Expo, Fan Zone and Opening Ceremony.
  • Recinto Feiral: The bike-rental hub, Closing Ceremony and Age-Group Mixed Relay medal ceremonies.

The use of e-bikes adds another mobility option to the event's operational arrangements across these locations.

2026 Championship Finals: What Lies Ahead

The action begins today, Wednesday, September 23, with the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony, followed by five days of racing across Junior, U23, Para Triathlon, Age-Group and Elite categories:

  • Wednesday, September 23: Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony
  • Thursday, September 24: Junior Women, Junior Men and Age-Group Sprint
  • Friday, September 25: Para Triathlon and U23 Championships
  • Saturday, September 26: Age-Group Standard, Aquabike and Elite Women's Final (18:00 CEST)
  • Sunday, September 27: Mixed Relays and Elite Men's Final (18:00 CEST)

The 2026 Finals will conclude on Sunday evening when the Elite Men's World Champion is crowned in Pontevedra.

From the Race Course to Event Operations

While public attention throughout the week will focus on the athletes and the world titles at stake, the introduction of e-bikes adds a new element to the way mobility is handled behind the racing.

The 2026 Finals have also been nominated again for sustainability recognition after the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Pontevedra received Gold Certification.
